REDDING, Calif. - A store clerk and his 5-month-old daughter were pepper-sprayed during a robbery in Redding. It happened around 10:30 Wednesday night at Smoker's Paradise on Hilltop Drive.
The clerk, 35-year-old Gurmit Singh, says the suspect came into the store and requested cigarettes, a pipe and synthetic marijuana.
Singh was holding his baby and set the items on the counter. The suspect pepper-sprayed him and the baby, took the items, and ran from the store.
Singh and his infant did not require medical attention after the application of the pepper spray, but they did experience discomfort from the effects of the spray.
The suspect was described as being in his early 20s. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket with white bands on the sleeves, and dark blue jeans. He was seen to be in possession of a "long board" type skateboard earlier in the evening.
