REDDING, Calif. - As of 10:08 a.m., PG&E crews restored power that was out in west Redding. The outage had affected Grant Elementary School and caused it to close for the day.
A school representative said that PG&E told them that the power would be down until 11:45 a.m. She said that the school was cold and dark and that school administration decided to send students home for the day.
Igo-Ono School in Igo informed media that they would be closing the for the day due to a power outage but the power came back on soon after and the school officials decided to keep class in session.
PG&E reported that the power outage started at 8:42 a.m. and was affecting 1,235 customers in Redding.
All power has been restored as of about 10:08 a.m. Crews found an open line recloser (a kind of switch) that had opened, possibly due to it sensing an electric disturbance such as wires slapping together in winds or a tree branch that blew into the line and then fell away. The cause of the outage is still being investigated.
