REDDING, Calif. - Fire destroyed a home on Butte Street in Redding Friday morning.
The fire was reported just before 9:25 a.m. at 2250 Butte Street. Upon arrival, firefighters used a ladder truck to attack the flames from above.
Bryan Sudeta's father lives next door.
"I ran down here as fast as I could," said Sudeta.
Sudeta said he saw a man coming out of the house late Thursday morning.
"My dad said this morning he [saw] smoke coming out and he kicked the back door to see what was going on. He said everything around the stove was on fire," added Sudeta.
Fire officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Although the owner said the home is currently vacant, neighbors reported seeing someone inside the home the previous night.
Smoke from the fire was clearly visible throughout the downtown area.
The value of the home is estimated at $150,000.
A parent said smoky conditions caused class to be canceled at Magnolia Math and Science Preschool next door.
Firefighters said the road was expected to be closed until noon while firefighters continued to fight the fire and mop up.
