Update: Triple Shooting in Alturas Leaves Husband & Wife Dead, Teen Injured

ALTURAS, Calif. - A triple shooting in Alturas Thursday night left a husband and wife dead, and the woman's 14-year-old son injured.

Police responded Thursday afternoon to a report of two people shot at a home in the 1200 block of West 9th Street in Alturas.

Officers arrived around 5:45 p.m. and saw Jim Sims III, 53, leaving the residence in his car.

Police followed Sims to a church parking lot in the 800 block of West Carlos Street.  Sims got out of his car and shot himself.  He was taken to Modoc Medical Center, then flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he later died.

His wife Marilyn Sims, 51, was found shot inside the home and died at Modoc Medical Center.

A 14-year-old was taken to Modoc Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.  Friends said the teen is Marilyn's son.

Word of the shooting spread quickly through the mountain community.   People expressed their sadness and remembered the victim on Facebook.

Investigators will process the crime scene Friday morning using the forensic lab.

Alturas Police, Modoc Sheriff, CHP and Modoc District Attorney are investigating the case.
