Victim identified in fatal motorcycle collision

HAPPY VALLEY, Calif. - The Shasta County Coroner's office identified the motorcyclist killed after a collision with an alleged drunk driver in Shasta County.

James Wooten, 63 of Cottonwood, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 1987 Harley Davidson collided with a pickup truck in Happy Valley.

The California Highway Patrol arrested 35-year-old Roger Ladewig of Anderson for DUI causing major injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Officers said Ladewig was driving a 2001 Ford F-350 truck eastbound on Palm Avenue, west of Happy Valley Road around 8:45 p.m. Monday.  Wooten was westbound on his motorcycle.  Ladewig allegedly turned to enter a private driveway, crossing into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

Wooten was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
