Woman who left two daughters home while house caught fire to get evaluation

OROVILLE, Calif. - A Chico woman who admitted to leaving her children home alone the morning a fire broke out will be sent to a state prison for a 90-day mental evaluation.

Rebecca Moralez admitted to KRCR News Channel 7 that she left her 8- and 9-year-old daughters home alone in the overnight hours.

The defense said they wanted to send Moralez for the 90-day evaluation to see if she can qualify for probation.  The judge granted that request, but the prosecution disagreed, arguing that Moralez should be sent to prison.

After the 90 days, Moralez will come back to the Butte County Jail and a judge will evaluate her progress.
