BIEBER, Calif. - A World War II veteran was found dead after his pickup truck became stuck in a remote area of Lassen County. The body of Carl Parks, 94 of Bieber, was found Wednesday afternoon. His wife Marian Parks, 85, was rescued from the vehicle and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Lassen County Sheriff's Office got the call Wednesday at 9 a.m.. They responded to a report of a vehicle stuck on Forest Service Road 54, off of County Road A-2. The location is in the northern part of Lassen County near Bieber. A person who was getting their vehicle from being stuck in the same area came across Marian Parks who was stranded in her pickup truck.
Investigators said Marian and Carl Parks' vehicle had gotten stuck on the road earlier. Apparently Carl Parks had left the vehicle, seeking help.
A search began involving several agencies including the Lassen County Search and Rescue, CHP Air Operations Redding Division, CAL FIRE, Forest Service and volunteers from local fire districts. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Carl Parks was discovered a short distance from the vehicle that was stuck. Parks was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of Parks' death will be determined after an autopsy is performed.
