GARBERVILLE, Calif. - On Nov. 11, 2017, around 8:15 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Ford F-250 occupied by suspects who allegedly stole items from a grocery store in Garberville. Deputies said the vehicle failed to yield, and HCSO requested the California Highway Patrol (CHP) take over the pursuit.
Garberville CHP units followed the Ford as it traveled east on Alderpoint Road at speeds up to 40-50 MPH, according to officials. The CHP said the Ford continued onto Bell Springs Road and ultimately Island Mountain Road. The driver finally stopped the Ford after blocking a private driveway approximately 10 miles south of the Heartwood Institute.
Officers said the male driver and two passengers fled on foot into a densely wooded/brushy area. Two male juveniles remained in the Ford and were detained, according to the CHP. The area was searched extensively by officers and deputies, but officials said they were unable to locate the driver and passengers.
Deputies transported the juveniles to Garberville where they were released to their parents. The identities of the driver and passenger remain under investigation by the HCSO and the CHP.
Anyone with information on the identities of the suspects should contact the Garberville CHP.
