Three victims identified in Mendocino fire, including a 14-year-old boy

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. - On Friday, October 13, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Division was able to identify three of the eight people located this far who died during the Mendocino Lake Complex Fire which started in the early morning hours of Oct. 9.

According to officials, the following people have been identified:

  • 14-year-old Kai Logan Shepard from Redwood Valley was found near his family's home in the 11300 block of West Road in Redwood Valley. Officials said it appears he was attempting to evacuate on foot when he was overtaken by the fire.
  • 87-year-old Roy Howard Bowman from Redwood Valley was found in the burnt remains of his home in the 4000 block of Fisher Lake Drive in Redwood Valley.  Officials said his residence was completely destroyed by the fire.
  • 88-year-old Irma Elsie Bowman from Redwood Valley was found in the burnt remains of his home in the 4000 block of Fisher Lake Drive in Redwood Valley.  Roy Howard Bowman and Irma Elsie Bowman were a married couple, according to officials.
