EUREKA, Calif. - The Eureka Dog Park opened on Wednesday, marking the completion of a 19 year project.
The park is located on Watson Street, and includes enclosed areas for dogs to run without a lease, as well as a smaller fenced-off space for small dogs.
The project was originally budgeted to cost around $140,000; however, organizers were able to complete it with $30,000.
"It's amazing how the community came together and was able to work with the city and work with RCA and work with all the contractors to make this happen," said Amy Washburn.
The dog park was first proposed in 1996, and was approved by the Eureka City Council in 2009.
