EUREKA, Calif. - On Thursday, the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods held a teen career fair in Eureka.
Local teenagers had the opportunity to learn about several different career paths. Area businesses including PG&E and Wells Fargo were in attendance to teach students about what they do on a daily basis. A make-up artist gave girls makeovers while a lawyer gave advice. The Eureka Police Department and Humboldt Bay Fire were also there to answer questions.
Jerry Nelson, the fair's organizer, said he saw this as a good opportunity to motivate the teens in the club.
"I don't think there's a lot of resources for the kids sometimes, especially in this particular situation where they're graduating and they don't really know in a lot of cases what they wanna do," Nelson said. We wanna be able to revise some of that for our members and for those in the community."
After the new Mckinleyville Teen Center opens in June, the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods hopes to include them in next year's teen career fair.
