EUREKA, Calif. - On Monday, the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods participated in National Fitness Competition Day.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods held organized sports throughout the afternoon at its location on Prospect Avenue in Eureka. Among many other activities, there was a tug-of-war, shuttle runs, jump rope and hula hooping.
Adrian Pichardo, the club house unit director, said the main objective of the activities was to channel the kid's energy into something healthy and positive.
"To get them out of their house and come play in the park and come to the Boys and Girls Club after school. [They can] come enjoy and have some sportsmanship, friendship and leadership with all of these kids here," Pichardo said.
There are over 4,000 Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide. In total, they serve more than four million kids.
