EUREKA, Calif. - The Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods is going to add more locations for their summer camps.
Liz Smith, the executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods, said they will be offering summer camps on the North Coast for the first time this summer.
Smith said the camps will be held in Arcata, McKinleyville, Bear River and Fortuna. She said the length of the camps will vary from four to eight weeks.
During the camps, kids will be participating in activities like hiking in the redwoods, going kayaking in the bay, as well as learning math, forestry and art.
The goal is to help keep kids and their minds busy during the three month break to make going back to school in the fall less difficult.
"School's hard enough," Smith said. "So with school being hard enough, if you're feeling like you're behind and you're not getting the attention that you need to be able to get back on track. A) you don't know if you gonna go to high school. B) the likely hood of you graduating goes down tremendously."
Smith said there's a $50 fee for the entire summer, but said people can apply for a waiver. She said if people want to enroll their kids they can do so by filling out the paper work at the Eureka office.
