UKIAH, Calif. - On Thursday, August 24, around 4:50 p.m., Ukiah Police Officers were called to Vinewood Park off of Elm Street, regarding a man that had just shot someone in the park, according to officials.
Officers said upon arrival a man was seen running from the area, but was caught and detained. The man was identified as Leon Marks Jr., 25, of Ukiah. Marks was found to be in possession of a CO2 pellet gun that looked like a semi-automatic handgun along with a large straight bladed knife, according to officers.
Officers said another man was found in the park and identified as Jesse Lawrence, 19, of Potter Valley, and he was found to be in possession of an illegal expandable baton.
Investigators learned that Marks had confronted Lawrence in the park regarding a prior incident. Both men were arguing when Marks pulled out a large knife and began swinging it toward Lawrence. Officials said Marks was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a weapon.
Officials said Lawrence was arrested for possession of the illegal expandable baton.
Neither were seriously injured, according to officials.
