Multiple agencies respond to a vegetation fire near Smith River on Monday

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. - Monday evening multiple agencies responded to a vegetation fire near Smith River, according to the Fort Dick Fire Department. 

On June 26, just after 9 p.m., Fort Dick Fire Department, Smith River Fire Department, and CalFire were called to a vegetation fire near the mouth of Smith River north of Pala Road, according to officials. 

Officials said it took seven hours for crews to get the fire contained to about 30 acres.

Firefighters said they utilized 4-by-4 vehicles to access the fire from the beach ,until the tide came in, at that point crews hiked in and out through the Tolowa Dunes. 

The incident is currently being investigated by CalFire and California State Parks officials.

The cause is considered suspicious, and anybody with information regarding this fire is encouraged to contact the Del Norte County Sheriffs Office.
