CAL FIRE said Monday the Oregon Fire near Weaverville was sparked by a vehicle towing a boat on Highway 299. The trailer became unhitched and dragged, sparking the fire.
The fire started around 5 pm Sunday. The fire held at 650 acres overnight and as of Monday morning the fire was 25% contained.
As of 8 a.m. Monday, mandatory evacuations were changed to advisory evacuations.
At the morning briefing, firefighters said there are lines all around the fire and they are making good progress on containing it. The priority for firefighters Monday is continued mop up.
The evacuation center is open at First Baptist Church on Highway 299 in Weaverville.
One structure was destroyed on Black Bear Road near Weaver Bally Road.
School is cancelled Monday at Weaverville Elementary and Trinity High Schools as well as Douglas City Elementary.
