CSU president gives pep talk to "Elite" Wildcats

Zingg: 'We're so proud of them.'

CHICO, Calif. - Chico State University President Paul Zingg showed up at the Men's Basketball team's practice Friday morning at Acker Gym on campus, as they prepare for next week's trip to Evansville, Indiana for the NCAA Division 2 Elite Eight.

Zingg gave each player a handshake, wishing them well as they prepare for Wednesday's game with South Carolina-Aiken.  He said the Wildcats provide a great example on behalf of Chico State.

"Do you know that the highest men's grade point average is our Men's Basketball team?" asked Zingg rhetorically.  "I don't think there's a team of any university in the country that can make that claim. These guys are student-athletes of this campus and citizens of this community.  And that's why we're so proud of them."

Zingg has commitments which won't allow him to travel to Evansville for Wednesday's game or Thursday's assuming they win. But Zingg showed his confidence in the team by already booking a flight to Evansville for Saturday's championship game.
