Player of the Week: Austin Clark/West Valley H.S. RB

COTTONWOOD, Calif. - The KRCR News Channel 7 Player of the Week had a record-breaking accomplishment in his game Friday, September 6.  Austin Clark of West Valley High School scored 4 touchdowns, and ran for 349 rushing yards.  The performance makes him West Valley's all-time leading rusher.

West Valley defeated the Shasta 41 to 7.  Clark credits his teammates for his outstanding performance.

"It was a big game, but it was all a testament to our "O" (offensive) line," said Clark.  "They worked their butts off all game long."

Clark had three scores in the first half, and added a fourth in the second half.

"When you're a RB (running back) and you get the opportunity to go in and just see a big hole open up and know that you're going for 6 - it's a blessing," said Clark.

West Valley Football Coach Greg Grandell said Clark is the best he's seen in his 25 years coaching at the school.  He's happy to see Grandell recognized.

"It's good that the good guy gets it once in a while," said Grandell.  "He's a really good kid that works really hard at it and wants to get better every week."

Clark hopes his individual accomplishments will help contribute to a team championship.  "Not many people get a second chance. So this is really my third.  Third year up here on this team and another shot to go to the section championship. another year to finish with my senior year."

As if his offense wasn't enough, he plays safety on defense.  "(I) love being on the field.  Love being able to make plays. They say the big players make big plays."

That's why Austin Clark is the KRCR News Channel 7 Player of the Week.
