A 29-year-old suspect is in custody for punching an 80-year-old man in east Redding Friday night.
Police were called to the incident on Greenback Lane near Kewsick Dam Road and Lake Boulevard around 8:30 p.m.
According to neighbors, the victim, 80-year-old Wyvon Ritchie confronted the suspect, 29-year-old William Isiah Noyes, who was allegedly snooping around a travel trailer in Ritchie's front yard.
In response, Noyes apparently punched Ritchie, knocking him to the ground and fracturing his right femur.
Neighbor Mike Pursell says he saw Ritchie lying in his front driveway being attended to by a female relative. When Ritchie told him what happened, he and several other neighbors and members of Ritchie's family took it upon themselves to search the area for Noyes.
"There was a lot (of us), yeah, the whole neighborhood basically--well, on Greenback Lane anyway," Pursell said. "We keep an eye on things around here and try to keep things like this from happening. You got to do what you got to do."
Pursell says transients have been seen from time to time in the area, but hardly ever travel down Greenback Lane.
Noyes was taken into custody in the area of Lake Boulevard and East Keswick Road, where Redding police say he fought with them.
Noyes faces charges of elder abuse, resisting arrest, vandalism and false imprisonment. He was also previously wanted for an attempted sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl.
