Weather Forecast: Wind Advisory For The Valley Floor
Redding, Chico, Red Bluff
POSTED: 5:31 pm PST February 22, 2012UPDATED: 8:52 am PST February 23, 2012Wednesday was a beautiful day in the Northstate with some record breaking temperatures. Chico broke their record of 75 set in 1995 with a high of 77 degrees. Red Bluff tied their record of 78 degrees also set in 1995. Redding saw a high of 75 but didn’t break the record of 80 set back in 1995.
Thursday will be another day with temperatures well above average but you will notice much stronger winds coming from the north. The sustained winds are expected to be between 15 and 30 mph with gusts around 40 mph. This is why the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the Northern Sacramento Valley from 4am until 6pm Thursday.
The winds will die down on Friday with yet another day of temperatures in the low 70’s under mostly sunny skies. The latest forecast models are trying to bring us some shower activity Friday night into early Saturday morning but I’m not really counting on it. There will be a better chance for snow flurries for the mountains of Siskiyou County Friday night.
The chance for showers Friday night comes from a trough of low pressure breaking down the ridge of high pressure responsible for this unseasonably warm weather. The main impact this weekend into next week will be cooler temperatures (low 60’s) with a few more clouds.
We’re still not seeing any major storms heading our way in the long range with just a chance for showers next Wednesday and possibly some shower activity in the first week of March but I wouldn’t count on anything just yet.
