Another Sunny and Dry Weekend/Week in the NorthState, Next Chance for Rain Comes Wednesday

We start this week as we ended last week, sunny warm and dry.

Temperatures will be settling into the mid 60s for the weekend, and may peak around 70 in several areas.  Redding and Red Bluff are most likely to see 70 degrees.  As the week progresses the strong high pressure system overhead will slowly erode and will eventually allow a weak system to sneak to it’s east.  It will slide in from the Gulf of Alaska and will give us a bit of much needed rain – but not a huge amount, current model runs put it at about .25-.5 inches of rain at the absolute most.

For those who are keeping track, we’ve been way below average rain wise this month.  Redding only say 0.93 inches of rain in January, putting us 5.03 inches under what we normally would get.  Red bluff tells a similar story – the city has received only 0.89 inches of rain this month, 4.13 inches below normal.  There are no Climate records kept for Corning or Chico.  So far the only thing keeping us above normal is all the rain we received in November and December, but that lead is quickly eroding as well.  We’re now down to only 0.18 inches above normal for the July 1 – July 1 precipitation year (measured in Redding).  The sunny days and warm temperatures are great, but we need some rain!  Lets hope for some more clouds.
