Beautiful End to the Weekend and Start to the Week, Cool and Rainy Late Week

Temps will stay nice and warm today through Tuesday, much cooler later in the week.

The upper level high over the Pacific will allow the clear skies to stick around in the Northstate.  With the lack of clouds overhead, temps will recover very well from the early morning low of 50 today, and will rapidly rise through the 70s and top out in the low to mid 80’s in the valley.  The beautiful summer-like weather will stick around through Tuesday before big changes start to move in from Alaska.

A huge area of low pressure will move into the Northstate Thursday into Friday and will bring lots of rain, snow and thunderstorms.  The center of this low is very cold and will allow the upper levels of the atmosphere to cool down quite a bit.  This will make for very unstable conditions and enable thunderstorms to pop up across the region.  In those storms, a few could have gusty winds and small hail.  The snow levels will be falling as well.  They will start around 3,500ft on Wednesday night before falling to 3,000ft on Thursday and could fall as low as 2,500ft by Friday.  The good news is there isn’t quite as much moisture associated with this low as there was with the system a few weeks ago, but higher elevation could see about 6 inches of snow from this storm.
