Clear Skies and Warmer Temperatures Stick Around Through New Years

High pressure builds in bringing clear skies and warmer temps to the NorthState.

That system which moved through on Saturday will continue to move down the coast.  As it moves it takes all the clouds with it, so finally those in the southern Cascades and northern Sierra will actually be able to see the sun for the first time in quite a while.  With the sun out, temperatures will start to warm up.  As the high pressure builds in, we'll see some gusty northerly winds which will keep our low temperatures up.  Areas with lots of snow won’t see as much of a warm up, but the sun will make the chilly temperatures feel better than the thermometer indicates.  In the valley we will see a big jump into the mid 50’s for many locations and a few spots could make it to the upper 50’s and maybe even 60 on New Year’s Day.

The sunshine sticks around through Wednesday when a very weak system moves through overnight into Thursday morning.  I don’t anticipate much out of this system, maybe a light snow and rain showers as the system moves through.  But the sun will return for Thursday afternoon.  Another storm is threatening for Friday and Saturday of next week, and we’ll keep a close eye on it for you.
