Much Cooler Today, Clouds Thicken and Rain Falls Tonight
Redding, Red Bluff, Chico
Much cooler start to this Tuesday, we’ll see temps at least 10 degrees cooler in the valley with rain moving in this evening.
Calm winds allowed the temps to drop much farther than they did last night. We saw a low of 36 this morning compared to our morning low of 53 yesterday. With the much cooler air in place, and clouds building in from the west, we won’t warm nearly as quickly as we did yesterday. Temps will stay in the upper 50s across the NorthState, poking into the low 60s the farther south you go. The clouds will thicken throughout the day and will begin to drop some rain in Trinity County around 3-4pm and in Shasta County closer to 6-8pm. This will be a very cold system and will correspondingly have low snow levels right around 3,000 feet by Wednesday morning. Wednesday we never quite break out of the clouds…we’ll have sunny breaks, but the clouds will stubbornly stick around through the day. Wednesday will be pretty chilly as well, temps will top out around 50 degrees in the valley.
We’ll get a break on Thursday, but we won’t completely break out of the clouds and temps will stay cool through the rest of the week. Another system will follow on Saturday into Sunday. That system looks to be a little stronger and could bring the snow levels slightly lower still. That system is looking like it will have more moisture associated with it and could give us more rain and snow. We’ll keep you posted.
