Rain Ends Tomorrow Morning, Warmer Temperatures for Next Week

Redding, Red Bluff, Chico

POSTED: 12:16 PM Jan 30 2013   UPDATED: 10:47 PM Jan 05 2013

Cool temperatures and rain will clear out and sunny skies with warm temps return for next week.

A few rain showers are moving through Redding right now, but the bulk of the storm will affect cities and towns farther south.  The cold storm moving in tonight will keep clouds and showers around overnight but most of the energy will miss Redding to the south.  Chico, Willows and Gridley will get most of the rain as the center of the storm misses us to the south.  Tomorrow morning the snow levels will have fallen enough that some elevated areas  in the City of Shasta Lake and Redding might see some snow mix with the rain.  The bulk of the rain ends tomorrow as the system moves along the California coastline before turning to the east near Sacramento.

From there a strong high pressure system moves in from the south bringing with it much warmer air.  Temperatures will warm into the mid to upper 50s for Monday, and could be well into the 60s by the time Tuesday rolls around.  Unfortunately, that weather is very short lived as we don’t have any blocking patterns set up to hold storms from pushing the high out.  The next storm will come from the Gulf of Alaska, and will bring with it very cold temperatures.  As of now, the models are showing much rain associated with the preceding front, but we will be following this very quickly.  The air behind the front will cause temps to plummet into the mid 40s with mostly sunny skies overhead.  Overnight lows will be frigid if we get calm winds and clear skies.  850 milibar (about 4,500 ft. above the ground) temperatures are in the 25 degree range, which means that temperatures on the ground will likely be much colder.
