Skies Clearing Today, Much Warmer Temperatures on the Way

We’re starting today with overcast skies, but there are patches of blue sky overhead, and clear skies are just off to the west.

The upper level low which caused all the rain has moved off to the south.  Overnight we saw .31 inches in Chico, .2 inches in Red Bluff, and .06 inches of rain in Redding.  This just goes to show how split this low was.  It dove south of Redding and hammered central CA, missing much of the NorthState.  Today we’ll see the residual clouds around, but they will eventually clear out through the course of the day.  The clear skies off to our west are the vestiges of the high moving in from the west which will eventually bring much warmer air in from the south.  This high will stick around through Tuesday.

On Wednesday a strong cold front will move through, bringing with it rain showers and snow at the highest elevations.  Behind it, there is some very cold air.  Initial temperature forecasts put lows in the 20-25 degree range in the valley with temps down at or below zero in the mountains.  We’ll keep a very close eye on this system.
