Sunny Skies Today Give Way to Cloudy and Rainy Tomrrow

One last sunny day in the Northstate, Monday sees our first storm of the season, snow is in the forecast.

We’ll have the calm before the storm today as the sun sticks around for most of the day.  It will be decently warm, with temperatures peaking around 70 up and down the valley.  We’ll see increasing clouds throughout the day and eventually completely cloud over during the night.  This sunny weather will move out allowing for the first storm of the wet season to move onshore for the very early hours Monday morning.

This storm will have all the hallmarks of an early winter storm.  The valley will see steady rain, which could be heavy at times especially in the early morning, and the mountains will see snow showers and accumulating snow.  In the mountains north, the snow will likely start as rain but switch over throughout the course of the morning.  Snow levels will drop as cold air moves in from the Gulf of Alaska and could allow elevations as low as 3,000 feet to see a dusting to 2 inches before all is said and done.  At higher elevations, the National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Northern Sierra and Southern Cascades.  We’re expecting 6-9 inches of snow above 4,000 feet with 12+ at the highest peaks.
