Breezy north winds in the valley tomorrow, but sunny skies will keep the temps warm.

A combination of strong high pressure over the Pacific Ocean and an upper level trough moving to our east will kick the winds up tomorrow.  Both systems will act as gears to pump the wind in from the north, keeping our overnight low temperatures up. Tomorrow elevation will play a major role in the ambient air temperatures.  In the valley, temps will rise into the low to mid 60’s, but the mountains will keep their temps in the upper 40’s to low 50’s.  And a few areas won’t even make it out of the low 40’s.  But for you warm-weather lovers we do have a light at the end of the tunnel.  Monday we’ll see temps peak near 70 as the high builds in from the west and the upper level trough moves out to the east.  The sun will shine brightly all day with very few clouds to obscure it, and we’ll have a beautiful December day on our hands.

As we progress through the week, things don’t stay so rosy and clear.  Wednesday of next week is showing a very deep trough moving in from the Gulf of Alaska.  This means we’ll have a very strong pool of cold air overhead.  It doesn’t look like we’ll get much precipitation out of this system, but widespread showers and potential for thunderstorms near Chico and Gridley are definitely on our radar.  That system will also give us our first real taste of winter, as the sun returns behind the system, the high temps will struggle to make it out of the 40’s.
