The storm moved through on Wednesday and as expected we didn't see much rain in the valley or snow in the mountains.  There are still a few Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories for some of the higher elevations through Thursday morning with anywhere between 1 to 6 inches of snow depending on the location.  There have been chain requirements for some of the mountain passes mainly east of I-5  so be sure to check the latest road conditions if you are planning any travel in the mountains Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Although there will be more sunshine on Thursday it will be a much colder day with highs in the valley only reaching the mid to upper 40’s and with a north wind blowing at 5 to 15 mph it will feel even colder.  Isolated snow flurries will continue for the mountains and I wouldn’t be surprised if Redding saw a few flakes as well but don’t count on it.

We’ll really notice the cold air Thursday night into Friday morning with valley lows in the mid 20’s.  This will be the coldest it has been for the season and it may even be cold enough for a freeze watch or warning in the valley.  It might be a good idea to wrap those outdoor pipes if you haven’t done so already.  Lows in the mid 20’s will be the case again Friday night into Saturday morning with the return of the 30’s after that.

High pressure will build back over the Northstate next week allowing us to warm back up to the 50’s and possible 60’s for some of the warmest spots.
