After seven days of powerful winter storms the Northstate will take a break from the active weather and bask under mostly sunny skies.

A short term ridge of high pressure will shift into the Northstate the next 36 hours, bringing clearer weather.  At the same it will also bring a more stable atmosphere, allowing for fog to develop in the overnights.

Areas that avoid the fog and low level clouds, will see temperatures quickly drop in the overnights.

The large snow-pack in the mountains will also allow for temperatures to quickly drop through radiational cooling.

Another low pressure system will try to swing in by Friday evening.  It appears the core of the system will be kept near the coast before the energy splits, sending it south of our area. Best chances for precipitation remain in Trinity county and Western Siskiyou county.  However a few showers and snow showers could drift into the rest of the Northstate too.

Sunday through New Years Day things remain quiet with highs bouncing back into the mid 50s.
