Weather Forecast: Mountain Snow, Valley Thunderstorms

The main cold front has pushed east of the valley floor this morning. However, we will still see passing showers and mountain snow the rest of the day. The next threat we now focus on is the development of afternoon thunderstorms.
Behind the cold front the cool and unstable air will move in allowing our snow levels to drop. The rain and snow will become more showery by early Wednesday morning. The snow showers will continue off and on throughout the day in the mountains with pockets of heavy snow at times. With expected clearing in the afternoon there will be a big chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms in the valley with the potential for heavy rain, hail, lighting and we can’t rule out the possibility of a funnel cloud or tornado. The cold and unstable air will still be in place on Thursday continuing our chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms.
By Friday we will be on the back side of the storm allowing us to dry out and warm things up by the weekend with highs back in the upper 60’s and low 70’s. The beginning of next week also looks dry and warm.
