Highs will warm into the mid 80s today for the valley floor. By Thursday we will be tracking rain, thunderstorms and low snow levels.
The record high for Redding today at the Airport is 83 degrees, which we should easily surpass. For the old city site the record is 84 degrees. So if the forecast stays on track, we should break both records for Redding today.
Chico your record high is 88 degrees for today, set in 1911, so Chico should stay below that.
High pressure starts to weaken by Tuesday but still well above normal with highs near 80 degrees.
Even Wednesday we'll continue you to see mild to warm conditions. However, the later we move into the afternoon hours look for clouds to increase from the west.
Thursday and Friday a very unstable and cold air-mass moves over head. We are not going to have a huge tap of moisture so we're not expecting long duration rain and snow. Yet, with such an unstable airmass in place thunderstorms, showers and low snow showers will quickly build over the Northstate. I fully expect to get many reports of hail, heavy rain, low snow and even a lot of graupel (hail, snow mix) down to below 3000ft.
We slowly start to wrap things up Saturday but there could still be enough unstable air around to see thunderstorms in the pm hours.
