Periods of heavy rain today for the valley, foothills and higher elevations.  Gusty south winds will continue to pick up this afternoon and evening.

WIND ADVISORY(includes valley)

Pre-frontal moisture will continue to overspread the Northstate today.  As the surface low moves closer to the Northcoast this afternoon and evening, south winds will pick up.  Most models show the highest winds arriving by mid to late afternoon and into the evening.  For the northern tip of the valley, potential for gusts over 40 mph.

We will also see pockets of the heavy rain for the entire Northstate.  With another push of sub-tropical moisture combined with those south winds, the main concern will be the training over the foothills and higher elevations, especially Shasta county.

Lingering showers should begin to break apart by the early afternoon hours Thursday with gradual clearing into the evening.

A ridge of high pressure will bring valley highs near 70 by Friday and Saturday afternoon. The high pressure will be short lived as another cold will bring more rain to the Northstate Sunday.
