The Northstate will be in between system today. last night's weak system will begin to depart this morning and the stronger front will not arrive until Wednesday morning.
The Northstate will manage to see a few isolated showers today but most will stay dry under mostly cloudy skies.
With a warm sub-tropical air-mass in place and clouds in place most of the mountain cities stayed well above freezing this morning. Most of the valley didn't make it below 50!
Through Wednesday afternoon snow levels will stay high. Forecast soundings for Mt Shasta city keep the snow levels above 7000 ft through 12:00 pm Wednesday, then dropping through the rest of the day.
Behind the initial cold front cold air will move into the Northstate. Unfortunately the biggest batch of moisture will have already departed so little snow for elevations below 7000 ft. However, models continue to show a secondary front late Thursday night and into Friday morning, that could bring snow showers down to 3,500 ft.
Models differ substantially on precipitation totals. Some models shadow the valley quite a bit, where some forecast models bring totals over 0.50".
