The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for the foothills and mountains and Fire Weather Watches for the valley floor through tomorrow.  There is a threat of dry lightning and gusty winds with any thunderstorms that form.

Afternoon thunderstorms have continued to develop throughout the Northstate valley, foothills and mountains.  Severe Thunderstorms in the Burney, Fall River Mills area produced quarter to golf ball sized hail.  Outflows from these same storms also produce wind gusts in excess of 60 mph.  Thunderstorms throughout the Northstate have also produce abundant cloud to ground lightning but also heavy rain.  However, lightning does not always fall the rain shaft and can often extend several miles outside of rain.

The upper level low offshore will slowly migrate in by this evening and overnight hours allowing for thunderstorms to continue even without the aid of daytime heating.

As the upper level low departs to the northeast tomorrow afternoon, the threat of thunderstorms will also subside.
