The monsoon moisture has returned once again giving us mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. We also have a weak area of low pressure spinning over Northern California that will create enough instability for isolated showers and even a few thunderstorms in the mountains and valley.
Because we are expecting more thunderstorms the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the mountains through Monday night and a Fire Weather Watch on Tuesday. Click here for more details.
There are several concerns we have with the potential for thunderstorms. Lightning may spark up more fires in the mountains. Strong gusty winds may help fan the current fires. There may also be the potential for flash flooding in areas that see heavy rain. We can only hope some of the areas that see the heaviest rain will be over the fires to give the fire fighters a little help.
The best chance for valley showers and thunderstorms will be Monday night and once again Tuesday. The chances for mountain thunderstorms are expected to last at least through Wednesday if not a little longer.
