MOUNTAIN GATE, Calif. -

CAL FIRE officials said the Wonder fire that broke out around 11 a.m. Thursday was human caused and started in an illegal encampment.

The fire burned 16 acres along Interstate 5 in Shasta County north of Redding near the community of Mountain Gate.

The Wonderland Mobile Home Park and North Woods Discovery Charter School was evacuated but at this time all evacuations have been lifted.

The fire also closed Interstate 5 in both directions but the freeway is now back open.

CAL FIRE Prevention Specialist Cheryl Buliavac said this fire required an aggressive attack.

"We have some high winds today. Its been extremely hot and dry. This winds are very concerning. They definitely contribute to critical fire behavior," Buliavac said.

Glenn Broadwater, a resident living near the fire, said he is thankful nothing was destroyed.

"By the time they got around to evacuations it went up just wind blowing ... It just blew it right on through everything. If this field would not be growing up and dry like this it would have never got this far," Broadwater said.

At this time, the fire is 75 percent contained. Crews are in the area mopping up and checking on hot spots.
