Motorcyclist killed in crash during CHP pursuit

OROVILLE, Calif. - The CHP is investigating a fatal crash that happened while an officer was pursuing a suspect in Oroville. According to a news release from the CHP, the motorcyclist died after crashing at about 100 miles per hour. It started at Lincoln Boulevard and Oro Dam Boulevard just before 6 p.m. Thursday. The CHP said 35-year-old Chao Thao drove off when an officer tried to pull him over for registration violation. Thao sped off down Lincoln Boulevard, running a stop sign and red light. He was reportedly traveling at 100 miles per hour, when he lost control on a curve and hit a power pole. Thao was pronounced dead at the scene.
